Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your role within the tax team at PKF Channel Islands?
I’m an ACCA Chartered Certified Accountant and Tax Manager within the tax team at PKF Channel Islands. My career has included both hands-on business experience and professional tax work, which gives me a practical perspective when supporting clients. Today, I work across a range of corporate and personal tax matters, helping clients meet their compliance obligations and navigate increasingly complex tax requirements with confidence.

What were you doing before joining PKF Channel Islands, and what experience have you brought with you?
Before joining PKF Channel Islands, I spent over seven years with a large, multinational accounting and audit firm where I worked with a broad range of local and international clients across corporate and personal tax matters. During that time, I gained extensive experience in tax compliance, advisory work, financial reporting, and supporting clients within the financial services sector.
Prior to moving into professional services, I was involved in running and managing a restaurant business. That experience gave me first-hand insight into the challenges business owners face on a day-to-day basis, from managing finances and operations to balancing commercial pressures and long-term planning. It helped me develop a practical, business-focused mindset that I still bring to client work today. Having worked on both sides of the table, I understand the importance of providing advice that is not only technically accurate but also commercially realistic and easy for clients to apply.

What first interested you in a career in tax and finance?
What initially attracted me was the combination of problem solving and continuous learning. Tax sits at the intersection of legislation, business, and people. I enjoy analysing complex issues, finding practical solutions, and helping clients understand how tax rules apply to their specific circumstances.

What attracted you to PKF Channel Islands when you were considering your next career move?
PKF Channel Islands stood out because of its strong reputation, collaborative culture, and commitment to delivering high-quality client service. I was looking for an environment where I could continue developing professionally while working alongside experienced colleagues and contributing to a growing and ambitious firm. The opportunity to work with a diverse client base and be part of a supportive team made the move particularly appealing.

What does your role involve day to day?
I work with both corporate and private clients on a range of tax compliance and advisory matters. This includes reviewing tax returns, researching technical issues, responding to client queries, and helping clients understand how tax legislation applies to their circumstances.
I also work closely with colleagues across the team, supporting junior staff and helping to ensure that work is delivered accurately and efficiently. A key part of the role is turning complex tax matters into practical advice that clients can easily understand and use.

Tax is an area that is constantly evolving. How do you keep up to date with changing regulations and guidance, and how does that help you support clients?
Keeping up to date is an essential part of the job. I regularly follow updates from professional bodies, tax authorities, and industry publications, and I take part in continuing professional development throughout the year. Staying informed allows me to identify potential issues early, understand how legislative changes may affect clients, and provide advice that is both accurate and commercially practical.

In the run-up to major tax deadlines, what is one small thing that helps you stay focused and organised?
I find that breaking larger projects into smaller, manageable tasks makes a huge difference. Tax deadlines can involve a lot of moving parts, so maintaining a clear task list and prioritising work helps me stay organised and ensures nothing gets overlooked. Or mandatory snack breaks!

And finally, what is your go-to treat after a busy week?
After a busy week, I enjoy switching off with a good book or spending some time gaming. Both are great ways to unwind, recharge, and take my mind off tax for a while.
