Meet the Team: Katie Higgins

We’re delighted to welcome Katie Higgins, who has recently joined PKF Channel Islands’ tax team in her first full-time role as a Tax Associate. With a background that blends creativity, and an eagerness to learn, Katie is excited to begin her professional journey with us.

Welcome to PKF Channel Islands! First things first – can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m from Jersey. Outside of work I like to stay active – whether that’s going to the gym, boxing or MMA. I also enjoy watching films and playing the drums.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and what led you to join PKF Channel Islands?
I studied for a BA in Film Production, specialising in editing. Alongside creating my own short films, I was lucky enough to intern on a feature film that’s still in post-production.

I have always enjoyed working and I’ve gained experience through part-time jobs in a whole range of roles – everything from working as a compliance intern to bar-tending. This is my first full-time role and I’m excited to get started.

What attracted you to PKF Channel Islands?
The team! Everyone is so friendly and highly qualified, with a wealth of experience to learn from. I felt it was the right environment to start my career.

What are your immediate priorities – what are you most looking forward to working on?
I’m looking forward to studying for my ATT (Association of Tax Technician) exams. They’ll really help me broaden my knowledge and grow in confidence as I start my career in finance.

What made you choose a career in tax and finance?
It’s something I’d been considering for a while, but I wanted to take the opportunity to study off-island and gain different experiences first. Having family who work in finance, I’ve seen first-hand the opportunities and security it can bring, and I’m looking forward to start carving my own path.

What does your role involve here at PKF Channel Islands?
At the moment, a lot of my role is focused on administration while I get to know the business, going forward I will be taking on more technical work as my knowledge grows.

First impressions count – how have your first few weeks been?
Really positive! Everyone has been welcoming, and it’s been great to start learning how everything works.

What are you most looking forward to in the months ahead?
Learning more about tax, progressing through my ATT exams, and of course the team socials!

And finally, what’s your go-to drink order when it’s your turn for the tea round?
Nice and simple – tea.

Katie’s enthusiasm and determination are already shining through, and we’re excited to see her career develop with us.
